Jim Hume, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for South Scotland, has today welcomed the Glentress forestry masterplan as a welcome economic development for the Borders.
The MSP also said the move underlined the significance to the Borders economy of a thriving public forestry estate.
Mr Hume campaigned successfully in 2009 to stop the SNP selling off the public forestry estate to Rothschild’s banking group.
Mr Hume said:
“The Glentress masterplan underlines the value of our public forestry estate and how we can maximise the tourism, health and economic benefits.
“Far from selling off our valuable estate to wealthy bankers like the SNP tried to do back in 2009, the Glentress masterplan shows precisely how sympathetic development of our forestry estate should be used for the public good.”
