The Conservative-led Scottish Borders Council has agreed a plan to surrender control of council services to an SNP government minister at Holyrood, voting to propose a merger between the council and the health board.
The Conservative plan would mean any decisions by Scottish Borders Council, on any subject, could be overturned by the SNP health minister in Edinburgh.
The minister could cut spending on schools or roads or even the NHS, regardless of what local people or the local council thought.
Scottish Liberal Democrat councillors voted against the plan. They don't think ministers in Edinburgh will take the best decisions for our area.
