Jim Hume, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for South Scotland, has today said that Lockerbie tup sale highlights the importance of cross border trade to the region’s economy.
The MSP is attending the sale today and will hear from livestock producers about the challenges facing the region’s agricultural sector.
Mr Hume said:
“Lockerbie tup sale is a key date in the diary for livestock producers and one year on from the referendum, a busy sale demonstrates why free cross border trade is so important to the South Scotland economy.
The MSP also said:
“We know that we are facing a decline in livestock numbers across Scotland. With agriculture so vital for rural Scotland we need to see the Scottish Government maximising the opportunities for increasing our export market which has seen significant contraction since 2004.”
